YOGA
In the West, we have come to refer to yoga as a series of postures, or asanas, to exercise our bodies physically and, depending on one's style of
practice, mentally and spiritually, as well. The word yoga can actually be translated from Sanskrit, the language of ancient India where yoga originated, to mean "union." In other words, a union of body, mind, and spirit. The asanas are actually only a part of the eight limbs of yoga, the majority of which concern themselves more with spiritual and mental clarity rather than physical fitness.
That being said, I highly recommend the incorporation of all aspects of yoga into one's daily life. After a massage session, I may recommend certain physical postures to help maintain the flexibility, fluidity, and strength of certain muscles. I find that many clients already practice certain postures when stretching after a workout. The lineage of the posture may come from yoga, and the client didn't even know it!
The following is a list of yoga studios within close proximity of my office. All of these studios have a specific area of expertise or practice a certain lineage of yoga. They are all very professional with knowledgeable staff and instructors. For more information, please contact the individual studio.
